YOUR POSITION WITH TNC

The CCI Training and Education Coordinator is part of the Stewardship and Field Programs Department (SAF) in The Nature Conservancy’s (TNC) Florida Chapter. The position is associated with the Chapter’s Center for Conservation Initiatives (Center/CCI) which is managed by SAF. CCI is a state-wide center of excellence that focuses on supporting conservation through public outreach, education/training, science/strategy, and land stewardship programming at CCI campus preserves across Florida and through online resources and community engagement. CCI campus preserves are Apalachicola Bluffs and Ravines Preserve, Disney Wilderness Preserve, Tiger Creek Preserve, and Blowing Rocks Preserve. This position reports to the SAF Department Director who also serves at the CCI Program Director. They will serve on the SAF leadership team. This position’s office location can be flexible (a CCI preserve, partner office, or work from a home office in FL).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The CCI Training and Education Coordinator develops and implements strategic conservation training and education programming for the Center for Conservation Initiatives (CCI) and ensures their work supports the Chapter’s and the Center’s missions. This position will focus on workforce development training as it relates to conservation stewardship practices (e.g. wildland fire, invasive species, restoration, etc.) and develops conservation education programming and materials in collaboration with CCI staff. They work closely with CCI staff and partners to identify training course needs, development, and delivery through in-person, online, or hybrid methods across Florida and beyond. They engage with outside agencies, academia, and NGOs to develop new training partnerships. Depending on their skills and training topic, they may serve as an instructor and/or cadre member with other staff and partners. This position requires travel in support of courses and partnerships. They identify and seek external funding for CCI training and education initiatives through grant opportunities and supports Chapter philanthropy efforts as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE

Develop and coordinate in-person, online, and hybrid professional natural resource stewardship-based trainings and educational workshops for professional and workforce development (50%)

In collaboration with CCI staff and partners, develop and provide training courses and workshops utilizing CCI campus preserve facilities, online, and partner facilities. Examples:

National Wildland Coordinating Group (NWCG) wildland fire courses

Cooperative Invasive Species Management Areas (CISMA) trainings

Habitat restoration and monitoring

Species management

Develop new training partnerships and utilize existing partners (academia, agencies, and other NGOs) to expand and implement stewardship course offerings across Florida.

Develop and maintain an online CCI training portal to provide opportunities to connect professionals, landowners, and college students with trainings and workshops that promote resource management and workforce development.

Serve as a training instructor, cadre member, and/or facilitator (virtual and in person) when appropriate.

Coordinate course advertisement, logistics, and evaluations.

Works with operations staff to ensure course fees are collected and accounted for with TNC-led trainings.

Attends professional stewardship trainings to expand skills and knowledge in order to serve as a course instructor as needed.

Develop strategic education & training materials (25%)

Work with CCI and Chapter staff to develop educational materials, web content, online videos & seminars for support of the Center’s Education & Training and Science & Strategy Initiatives.

Develop video resources demonstrating stewardship practices that can be accessed on CCI website.

Work with CCI staff to support local education and outreach activities.

Work with Strategy leads in TNC’s Florida Chapter to develop online education materials for supporting conservation strategies.

Provide logistics support to online CCI outreach programs (e.g., seminar series) as needed.

Administrative duties (20%)

Represent TNC and promote CCI training and educational opportunities.

Serve on the SAF leadership team as a representative of CCI.

Seek and secure grants to support education and training initiatives across the Center.

Budget preparation and management.

Develops annual CCI training workplans and outcome reports.

Supports SAF and other Florida Chapter Departments as needed (5%)

Provides support to other Chapter priority initiatives as needed.

Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences, natural resources management, or similar field; and 4 years’ experience in community development and/or conservation education, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.

Communications experience including presenting to community leaders, government officials, or related; and working in partnership with other organizations.

Experience with MS Office, Word, Excel and Database management.

Experience working with partners/government agencies without violating any restrictions related to conflicts of interest, lobbying former employers, or influencing decision makers.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience with stewardship practices such as prescribed fire, invasives species management, etc.

Experience with training, course development, and logistics.

Partnership building experience.

Developing and running online meetings and workshops utilizing various streaming platforms

Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.

At least 3-6 years’ experience in training and/or conservation education, or equivalent.

Working knowledge of current trends in relevant disciplines.

Excellent communications in English and language of the country of assignment.

Demonstrated experience in MS Office, Word and Excel. May require database management skills with ability to produce reports.

Ability to manipulate, analyze and interpret data.

Fluency in English with Spanish desired.
