Virtual Elementary and high School Tutors

Ontario Learning Development Foundation (OLDF) is looking for tutors to join our virtual homework club and tutoring for elementary and high school students.

Ontario Learning Development Foundation (OLDF) is a registered charity in Canada that performs training and educational services to youths, children, new immigrants, and seniors. Our mission is to transform our communities through integrated educational and community-response empowerment initiatives for children, youth, new immigrants and their families.

Tutors will be responsible for assigned children (K to 8) or High School and will provide mentorship, homework assistance and tutoring.

Responsibilities:

  • Grades K to 8 tutors is responsible for a group of 8 to 10 children virtually
  • High School tutors will be subject matter experts (Mathematics, Science or Language) and will be available online on a drop-in basis.
  • Assist children on a weekly basis with their math, science and writing homework
  • They ensure children’s safety, manage children’s behaviour and act as a role model for the group
  • Work closely with program coordinators and program managers to ensure the safety of all children.
  • Implement and promote the HIGH FIVE Principles of healthy child development in an instructional approach.

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled or recently graduated in a relevant post-secondary program
  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Office products (including MS Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, PowerPoint,) and the Internet
  • Familiarity with using google slide, google sheet, google docs and google classroom
  • Must have strong interpersonal, communication, time management and organizational skills
  • Proven ability to work well independently
  • Be a quick learner and self-motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Maturity and professionalism
  • Must be available and willing to assist students synchronously three times a week on video (schedules to choose from Mon to Thurs – evening or Saturday morning or afternoon).
  • Experience with tutoring/teaching preferred

Requirements:
This required 15-20 hours per week

Contract – 15- 20 weeks

Rate: $14.25/hour

Work from home / Remote work due to COVID-19

Must be willing to be online synchronously on video

The successful candidates for High School tutoring will need their current informal transcript.

Since this is a funded position by Canada Summer Job grants, all applicants must be a youth (citizen, PR or conventional refugee) between 15 -30 years of age to qualify.
