Start Date: First meeting week of January 24th.

Are you a student who has experience in resource preparation or event planning and who wants to get involved in climate action? If so, Embark Sustainability has an opportunity for you!

Embark Sustainability is an independent, student-led not-for-profit based out of Simon Fraser University that catalyzes student sustainability (un)learning journeys for the next generation of leaders. Embark’s 35,000+ members include all students enrolled in an SFU undergraduate or graduate degree program. Our mission is to create space for transformation by catalyzing student sustainability journeys that centre justice, equity, decolonization, diversity and inclusion. We do this by engaging SFU students in programs, events, and other initiatives that work to address systemic challenges including climate change and food insecurity.

Currently, Embark Sustainability is looking to recruit two-three Advocacy and Education Volunteers. Advocacy and Education Volunteers work with the Advocacy and Education Coordinator (Maitland Waddell, [email protected]) to mobilize knowledge and create opportunities for collaboration with external partners. In this exciting new role, you will develop skills in networking, resource development, event-planning, and environmental advocacy.

As a team, prepare and organize one resource and one end-of-term event. Both will be designed to assist students in finding the environmentalism initiative at SFU that is the best fit for them.

Act as the contact point between Embark Sustainability and other environmental groups in the SFU community.

Advertise and circulate Climate Advocacy Team resources and events throughout your networks.

Attend the event planned by the Climate Advocacy Team (TBD).

Attend a semesterly check-in meeting with Embark’s Programs Manager.

You must be available to attend regularly-scheduled meetings each week. Given the current COVID-19 pandemic, these meetings may be held in-person or virtually. We will figure out a time that works best for everyone once volunteers have been selected.

You must currently be an SFU undergraduate student, graduate student, or Embark associate member.

You should have a desire to work with a team of passionate students on addressing climate change!

Given the nature of this work, previous experiences with event planning and/or resource development will be considered an asset.
