The Communications Officer provides leadership and coordination for Faculty of Science marketing and communications activities, in consultation with Faculty departments and stakeholders, to support student acquisition and engagement and promote the Faculty of Science to its various audiences. The position develops, executes and monitors marketing and communications initiatives across traditional and digital channels, ensuring alignment with SFU key messages, brand guidelines, tone of voice and marketing and communications standards. The role works collaboratively with the supervisor and other Faculty stakeholders to conceive, develop and write communications profiling the achievements of students, faculty, staff and alumni, and liaises with centralized marketing and communications teams on internal and external media opportunities.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, Journalism or related field and five years of related professional experience, including experience in developing and implementing marketing and communications plans and budgets or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Excellent knowledge of marketing and communications principles, practices and techniques.

Excellent knowledge of website and social media technologies, platforms and tools (e.g., content management systems, content and image editing software, performance tools and desktop publishing applications).

Knowledge of EDI (equity, diversity and inclusion) principles.

Excellent communication (verbal and written), teamwork, interpersonal, and collaboration skills.

Excellent writing, copy editing and layout skills.

Excellent problem solving, time management, project management and organizational skills.

Ability to conceive, design, research, write and develop stories, marketing materials, publications, online content and other written and graphic communications.

Ability to conceptualize, develop and manage strategic creative projects within timelines.

Ability to establish priorities and to work on a number of different initiatives concurrently.

Ability to use digital photography, videography and sound recording, and to perform associated editing and manipulation of materials.
