Department summary

The Office of the Registrar’s Admissions unit is responsible for the undergraduate admissions process for domestic and international applicants in partnership with the faculties. Over 38,000 applicants apply to undergraduate programs at the University of Alberta every year.

Position summary

Reporting to a Manager (Applicant Services), the Specialist, Research & Curricula (R&C) is an subject matter expert in undergraduate admissions processes, policies, domestic and international education system. R&C works as part of a team of Specialists (R&C) to support policy development, training, quality assurance of undergraduate admissions processes. 

This position will support the building and maintenance of positive stakeholder relations with colleges, faculties, departments and external bodies for information sharing and development of best practices in admissions.


  • Provides expert guidance, advice, and information in the interpretation of undergraduate admissions policy and procedures. 
  • Constantly monitors changes in University of Alberta admissions policies and conducts environmental scans of domestic and international high school and post-secondary education systems. 
  • Builds and maintains an extensive set of reference materials, training resources, and knowledge base related to undergraduate admissions. Supports onboarding and training of staff members.
  • Seeks continuous improvement and recommends admission policy or process changes as necessary.
  • Supports the creation of articulation agreements for transfer admissions with other post-secondary institutions.
  • Develops and maintains quality assurance processes

Please note, this position does not conduct academic research.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Completion of a bachelor’s degree; equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered
  • Strong commitment to service excellence, equity, diversity, inclusion and indigenization
  • Proven track record in building and nurturing relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience in developing training resources and reference materials

Preferred Qualification

  • Training in adult education principles and pedagogy is an asset 
  • Proficiency in French or another language other than English an asset
  • Experience with international education systems is an asset
  • Experience related to post-secondary admissions processes is an asset
  • Familiarity with Campus Solutions/PeopleSoft, Slate, or other Student Information Systems an asset
