The Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver Campus invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor of Teaching. Applicants must hold a PhD (conferred by the date of appointment or within the past 6 years) in Chemical and/or Biological Engineering or in a closely related engineering discipline. Applicants must either be registered, or eligible to register, with Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia. Registration is required within five years of appointment. The anticipated start date of the appointment is 1 July 2021.

This position provides the opportunity to pursue a career in our professor of teaching path focused on excellence and innovation in teaching and educational leadership in the intellectually stimulating atmosphere of a top-tier Chemical and Biological Engineering department. The hire is expected to take a leadership role in the department in enhancing the teaching of our undergraduate engineering laboratory courses and in the development of new undergraduate teaching paradigms that use community-sponsored projects to enhance experiential engineering training. The successful applicant will oversee and teach a range of courses within our three accredited undergraduate degree programs: chemical process engineering, chemical and biological engineering, and environmental engineering (joint with the UBC Department of Civil Engineering). The successful applicant will also be expected to be highly engaged in educational leadership activities, including curriculum development and implementation of innovative teaching practices that enhance learning outcomes and career opportunities for engineering students. Applicants must have demonstrated or possess clear potential and interest in achieving excellence in teaching and learning, in educational leadership and in providing broader service to the University and society.
