Communications Officer

Communications Support Officer
This position reports to the National Executive Director of IL Canada. This individual will provide his/her service to respond to the needs of the National Office and organization. IL Canada seeks to hire a Communications Support Officer. Currently there are only two (2) full-time employees. The Communication Support Officer would support the Executive Director to create various forms of communication in order to educate the public about Independent Living Canada and the work our 24 Centers do across the country and about the many barriers that prevent people with disabilities from fully participating in our communities.

We are also revisiting our Branding document and revising our website. The successful candidate would support the work in revising both.

The successful candidate will also become more aware of the many barriers that prevent people with disabilities from accessing various forms of communication. When they leave this job, they will be well positioned to provide barrier free communication to any company, government, or NGO that they work for in the future.

Mentoring will be provided by both staff positions and will be supervised by the Executive Director.

Currently all staff of Independent Living Canada are working from home during COVID 19. The student will also work from home and will be provided with the tools to do so successfully.

One staff person works from Ottawa and the other from Halifax, Nova Scotia. Our preference would be to hire someone from one of these locales, but if a quality candidate lives in another part of Canada, we will hire them.

Our preference would also be to hire a person with a disability who may also experience other barriers or discrimination based on gender, sexual orientation, or may be a member of the black, indigenous, or racialized communities.
