Job Description

AECOM’s Environment team in Ontario is looking for an Environmental Scientist . This is a full-time role based out of the Pickering or Markham Office with the majority of time spent conducting field/reporting activities in Port Hope .

You’ll be part of our growing team, using your skills to support the implementation of one of the landmark remediation projects in Canada. Your work will directly support the Remediation Verification program following the removal of Low-Level Radioactive Waste with growth opportunities for various roles within the project. The position will require working outdoors and in a field office setting.

This position is expected to begin in April 2024.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Field tasks:

  • Monitor excavations including scanning and sample completed excavations and characterize soils.

  • Check and maintain a range of equipment (e.g., radiological instruments, GPS, and XRF).

  • Assist in the resolution of issues and assess whether more or less remediation is required.

  • General field inspection and field survey.

  • Construction/remediation contractor field oversight and hazard assessments.

Office tasks:

  • Review past information to assess gaps in information and develop a sampling plan.

  • Input data, conduct quality reviews of data (e.g. GIS), and independently preparing reports.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Environmental Geoscience, Environmental Engineering, Geology, Environmental Studies, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in consulting or construction.

  • Eligible for licensing as a Registered Professional Engineer or Geoscientist in Ontario is considered an asset.

  • Valid Driver’s License is required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices.

  • Offered rate of compensation (Pickering and Markham locations only) will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The salary range for this position is $50,000 – $70,000/yr.
