About the Position:

The Better At Home Coordinator works with community partners and coordinates the project to provide non-medical home support services to seniors living at home at the Vancouver Hastings-Sunrise area.


Reports to: Program Director, Family and Community Services Division


Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develops and maintains a supportive relationship with existing and new seniors receiving program services
  • Liaises and works with community partners on the project
  • Recruits and works with volunteers / causal workers to carry out the required service
  • Provides trainings and supports to volunteers / causal workers to perform their work
  • Provides support in scheduling services with volunteers or casual workers
  • Outreaching and marketing to reach out to isolated or vulnerable seniors to ensure the service is accessible to them
  • Attends meetings with other Better at Home Coordinators and United Way representatives if needed
  • Ensures all services meet the accreditation standards
  • Maintains up-to-date records
  • Responsible for report writing and other administration work
  • Maintains statistical records for accountability, funding application/report and program development purposes
  • Ensures services are provided within the financial budget
  • Attends community meetings as requested by the Program Director
  • Attends supervision and team meetings regularly
  • Attends division staff meeting/retreat and training opportunities as required
  • Works closely with staff members of other S.U.C.C.E.S.S. divisions/offices in providing joint support to individuals and families
  • Performs other tasks as assigned by the Program Director


Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor degree in Social Science/Human Services or related discipline preferred
  • Demonstrates knowledge about local community resources
  • Demonstrates experiences working with multicultural seniors
  • Demonstrates knowledge and ability to communicate with people who may suffer from memory loss, dementia or other mental health challenges


Job Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, bi-lingual an asset
  • Excellent in interpersonal and communication skills
  • A good team player with internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent program planning, time management and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite and basic internet skills
  • Multitasking and flexible


Other Requirements:

  • Clear Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector Check) required (submitted upon hiring)

  • Frequent travel within Vancouver
