e4c has a unique opportunity as the Café Coordinator for the Hallway Café Program. Are you an experienced barista with a passion for teaching? The Hallway Café’s kitchen is located within the downtown core that prepares all foods from scratch to supporting food catering, breakfast and lunch service and the daily production of baked goods! You will be a part of a safe and supportive environment that acts as a ‘go-to’ place for at-risk youth and offers employment readiness services for youth along with food and beverage services.


Hours: Full-time: Monday to Friday: 7:00am to 3:30pm; may include some evenings and weekends due to special events.

In Your Role You Will

Café Operation

  • Feel, taste and examine food prepared and cooked by kitchen staff to ensure food consistency, quality and presentation.
  • Plans and refreshes the coffee menu to reflect local products, inventory supplies and availability.
  • Create innovative marketing opportunities within the café.
  • Communicates and answers questions related to food and coffee menu.
  • Calls and arranges for preventative maintenance and repairs of all equipment and machines.


Social Enterprise

  • Provide vision, direction and leadership for the Hallway Café and catering as a social enterprise.
  • Develop service standards and program curriculum for up to 40 youth as part of the Employee Readiness Program.



  • Train and supervise youth who are a part of the Employment Readiness Program in areas of food/beverage preparation, cashier, floor service and customer service.
  • Conduct and complete evaluations related to goal plans for youth participants.


Catering Support

  • Provides estimate quotes, takes catering orders and prepares invoices.
  • Ensures proper transportation, handling and storage of goods and materials, equipment operation and equipment maintenance for catering events.
  • Establishes relationships with local businesses, suppliers and stakeholders.


Youth Support

  • Builds rapport and actively engages with youth employed in Employment Readiness Program.
  • Collaborates with multi-disciplinary team in problem solving case management challenges, barriers and concerns that youth may be experiencing.


Financial Administration

  • Prepares end of day statistics from POS system and ensures cash and sales balance.
  • Processes and maintains debit reconciliation.
  • Keeps records of all sales receipts in accordance with policy and CRA standards.


Education and Certifications


  • High school diploma
  • Proserve Certification (or the ability to obtain this certification prior to the start date)
  • Police Check with Vulnerable Sector.
  • Intervention Record Check.
  • Food Handling Certification
  • First Aid (CPR-AED)



  • Certifications: Aboriginal Awareness, De-Escalation, Suicide Intervention, Harm Reduction, Trauma Informed Practices



  • 3+ years of experience as a food service professional.
  • 1+ years of experience as a barista.
  • Previous experience as café manager or related leadership in a similar area is an asset.
  • Previous experience in social enterprise or small to medium food establishment is an asset.
  • Proven track record of cost control including food, equipment, labor and wastage to meet financial goals.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Programs and cost management systems.
