Background War Child Canada is a registered Canadian charity based in Toronto that works with
war-affected communities to help children reclaim their childhood through access to
education, opportunity and justice. War Child Canada also takes an active role in raising
public  awareness  around the  impact of war  on communities and  the shared
responsibility to act.  War Child Canada has over 15 years of experience working in
communities in conflict and post-conflict zones. All work is implemented in direct
partnership with local communities, local NGOs and other stakeholders using a child-
centered approach.
War Child Canada works in Afghanistan, Iraq, Uganda, DR Congo, Sudan, South Sudan
and Jordan.
Position The Digital Marketing Officer is responsible for executing activities related to positioning
summary War Child Canada as a digital-first communications and fundraising organization. This
will include implementing a strategy for targeted social media advertising. Under the
direction of the Director, Communications, the Digital Marketing Officer will support and
contribute to the planning, implementation, and reporting on digital communications and
marketing activities and achievements within the Communications and Fundraising
teams. The Officer will be responsible for the creation of digital-first content that
contributes to community building and lead-generation, diversifying War Child Canada’s
digital outlets, engaging with influencers and measuring and analyzing results to learn
and adapt to successes and failures. The Officer will proactively seek out digital
marketing opportunities to bolster War Child Canada events and initiatives and partner
with and service the digital needs of all departments. The Officer will have first rate
communications skills, experience managing websites and multiple social platforms and
a willingness to innovate quickly within an environment dedicated to effecting change in
the lives of children living with conflict.
Responsibilities Digital Communications: Planning and Execution


Implement the strategy for social media advertising to include targeted ads through Facebook and Google platforms.


Manage the daily digital content calendar based on the overall Growth Team calendar.


Manage all of War Child’s social media platforms and


Create highly shareable and fit-for-platform stories and content to grow audience engagement.


Coordinate social media ad buying, optimization, and reporting.


Create content for that contributes to a streamlined user journey.


Proactively monitor and engage in discussions surrounding War Child Canada, its program areas, activism and related subjects, under the guidance of the Director of Communications


Measure and analyze engagement results and recommend changes of course or increased investment based on results.


Identify and engage with influencers who can expand War Child’s reach. Contribute to the development of audience segmentation and profiles.


Collaboration and Culture


  • Adheres to War Child’s communications principles, policies and procedures, with particular attention paid to child safeguarding.


  • Contribute to the ongoing enhancement of a creative culture within War Child and maintain positive and professional relationships with colleagues and volunteers.


Qualifications A.  Education/Training/Certification




    • Post-secondary degree or diploma Desired


    • Post-graduate or Continuing Education certifications in communications, media or digital production.



  • Experience





    • Minimum 1-2 years’ experience in a communications environment, with a focus on digital.


    • Minimum 1-2 years’ experience implementing digital strategies


    • Excellent writer, with experience writing for online platforms.


    • Ability to edit video for social media use.


  1. Knowledge and Technical Skills


  Experience using content management systems to manage and update
website content, including understanding of HTML.
  Experience using social and online monitoring tools.
Strong analytic skills.
  Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  Experience using Google Adwords platform for online advertising (search,
display and video.
  Experience using Google Analytics.
  Experience using Facebook Ad Manager for targeted promotions.
  Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite.
Basic design skills.
