Your Opportunity:

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) will perform comprehensive assessments, diagnoses (including ordering and interpretation of test results), interventions (including prescribing medications), management of dialysis access placements in collaboration with surgeons and interventional radiologists, referrals to related specialties as required, evaluation, and follow-up care. In collaboration with program leadership, the position will provide clinical leadership for Home Dialysis staff and reduce fragmentation in delivery of nephrology patient care across multiple sites and models of care. The NP will participate in program development and evaluation, research, and clinical teaching activities utilizing best practice in Nephrology patient care. This position is integrated with the strategic initiative of having 40% of patients on home dialysis and will therefore work collaboratively with operational and medical leadership to ensure that all patients are assessed and offered a home dialysis modality while mitigating or removing real or perceived barriers. The NP would work alongside the multidisciplinary team to assist with home peritoneal and home hemodialysis clinics and discussions across the continuum of the patient’s kidney care journey to meet the wholistic needs of each patient. This evolving role not only includes guiding and supporting best practices, but has a strong emphasis on multidisciplinary care, multifaceted program requirements, and teamwork. As a part of the nephrology NP team, the position will work to provide coverage as needed to other program NPs providing a variety of care including inpatient nephrology and hemodialysis support. This is a multi-site position including Royal Alexandra Hospital, West Edmonton Kidney Care and University of Alberta Hospital.

As a Nurse Practitioner (NP), you will provide a full range of comprehensive health services to individuals across their lifespan. You will be responsible for integrating clinical skills associated with nursing and medicine to assess, diagnose, order, and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe treatment, and perform procedures to manage and meet the health needs of patients. Additionally, you will utilize advanced practice nursing competencies related to Clinical Practice, Leadership and Optimizing Health Systems, Education, and Research to increase care quality, promote appropriate use of health services, and inform and influence healthcare systems. Required Qualifications:

Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner program and a minimum of master’s degree. Registration with CRNA on the Nurse Practitioner Registrar including Provisional Graduate Nurse Practitioner licensure. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Graduation and BScN from a recognized Nursing education program. A Master Degree in Nursing with a focus on Advanced Clinical Practice. Current registration with CRNA in NP adult stream with current experience as an NP in an acute care setting, preferably Nephrology. A minimum of 5 years as a registered nurse and current BCLS certification. Must be willing to complete additional education and/or certifications specific to Nephrology.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference may be given to applicants with nephrology experience, chronic disease management experience, and care in ambulatory/home environments.
