Job Summary

Dr. John Ogrodniczuk and the HeadsUpGuys team are raising the bar for men’s mental health care in Canada and around the world. Since launching the website in 2015, HeadsUpGuys has become a highly respected international resource for men seeking help for their struggle with depression and suicidal thoughts. With more than 50,000 monthly visitors from across the globe, HeadsUpGuys continues to grow its media platform, offering multiple points of connection to men who might otherwise keep their struggles hidden or feel alone.

HeadsUpGuys is looking to expand its team. We are seeking an ambitious, enthusiastic, creative, innovative, and empathic person to help HeadsupGuys become the leading global resource for men with depression.

This position is for a new staff member to assist with a wide variety of web editing tasks, web publishing, digital marketing, and developing content that focus on various topics relating to depression and suicidality. Additionally, the staff member will contribute to the development of a new Self-Check suite of screening tools and associated articles. The staff member will also a\end various community events involving HeadsUpGuys.

Organizational Status
The Research Assistant (RA) will report directly to Dr. John Ogrodniczuk and may receive instructions from senior personnel. This position would interact with the vulnerable population and a criminal records check is required.
Work Performed

  • Assists with conducting research projects by preparing and creating the online surveys within Qualtrics

  • Assists in collecting, cleaning and analyzing research data

  • Maintains research-related records and databases by entering data according to established protocols

  • Assists with study participant recruitment

  • Assists in the preparation of research-related materials, including social media publishing

  • Supports various digital marketing strategies for the implementation of various SEO strategies

  • Drafts new page and article content for website, including research reviews into chosen topic

  • Creates Self-Check suite, inclusive of developing new web pages for self-check  screening tools and drafting new content around topics related to various mental health topic

  • Attends community events involving HeadsUpGuys

Consequence of Error/Judgement
Errors made in this position can impede the progress of the project and cause adverse relationships with partners, decision makers, and funding agencies and may compromise the positive promotion of the project. Errors or incorrect decisions could potentially result in delays in completing aspects of the project or compromise the quality of the project.
Supervision Received
The RA will receive work direction from the PI, Dr. John Ogrodniczuk, who will provide daily general supervision. The RA will be expected to exercise independent judgement in carrying out familiar tasks; new or unusual problems are reported to the PI.
Supervision Given
This position does not require supervision of others.
Minimum Qualifications
High school graduation, some additional training in a related field and a minimum two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Undergraduate education or other post-secondary training in psychology or related field is required

  • Expertise in web-based technologies and WordPress (or other CMS) is required

  • Strong writing skills (drafting, editing, proof-reading) are required

  • Experience in developing mental health communications for general audiences is required

  • Experience with digital marketing is strongly preferred

  • Knowledge of mental health promotion, as well as mental health research is strongly preferred

  • Basic understanding and familiarly with HTML and CSS is an asset

  • Experience with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator (or similar tools) is an asset

  • Demonstrated ability to exercise a high level of tact, discretion and sensitivity

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with equal proficiency in inter-professional communication and communications with individuals with lived experience of depression

  • Effective organizational skills and ability to maintain attention to detail

  • Ability to solve problems and be self-directed
