The expected salary range for this position is from $66,924 to $100,000.

The UBC Department of Pediatrics, Division of Cardiology, located at BC Children’s Hospital invites applications for a Research Associate to join a busy clinical program to support the development of a multidisciplinary research program focusing on pediatric and congenital heart disease. The Research Associate possesses a strong research background with a proven publication record and strong methodological skills. Knowledge of congenital heart disease, the cardiovascular system and academic medicine are beneficial.

This position is located within a health-care facility. Therefore, this position requires successful verification of full vaccination against Covid-19 provided prior to the start date, as required by the provincial health mandate.

All positions in the Department of Pediatrics at BC Children’s Hospital require a Criminal Record Check (CRC). A pre-employment CRC is required as part of the recruitment process and any offer of employment is contingent pending a positive result of the CRC.

You will have a PhD and experience in health care research. Expertise in outcomes research, research networks and large scale data management and analyses is an asset; as well as demonstrated excellence in written and verbal communications.

As the successful candidate, you will:

  • Demonstrate scientific creativity and/or knowledge in pediatric and congenital heart disease

  • Support the development of feasible research projects that may have a positive effect on the care of pediatric patients with congenital heart disease

  • Support busy clinicians in ensuring high quality research practices and perform administrative tasks, including data sharing contracts, ethics, and finances

  • Remain current on research of present principles and theories

  • Independently determine new data required to develop a scientific manuscript with a strong proficiency in scientific methods and analysis  

  • Prepare peer reviewed scientific manuscripts and grant proposals

  • Apply knowledge of innovative research principles, theories and concepts

  • Identify areas of collaboration (academic/industry) and collaborate with other relevant researchers

  • Work with industry sponsors and/or other relevant groups in conducting clinical trials

  • Provide leadership and mentorship to trainees within the research group on scientific matters

  • Assist the PI in ensuring fiscal safety and legislative responsibilities are maintained

  • Exercise extensive independent judgement, initiative and decision making to resolve problems

  • Develop guidelines, procedures and standards; monitor for industry compliance when relevant

  • Develop and present material for publication using strong written, verbal, and graphical communications skills with the ability to express highly complex scientific concepts effectively

  • Assist the PI in preparing reviews of others’ grant application and manuscripts as appropriate

  • Support obtaining funding for meritorious scientific work within the clinical unit

This position will begin as soon as it is filled. This is a full time term appointment subject to annual renewal.
