The School of Nursing is York University’s ninth largest academic unit, with over 1,100 undergraduate majors and over 130 graduate students. The School offers a number of undergraduate degree programs, including the Collaborative Nursing program (with Georgian and Seneca Colleges); the Internationally Educated Nursing (IEN) program; and, the Second Degree Entry program. At the graduate level, the School offers Masters, Doctoral and Nurse Practitioner programs. Students have the opportunity to apply their classroom learning through hands on experiential education in our Nursing Simulation Centre, Nursing Skills Lab and Computer Simulation Lab.
The Manager Resources and Planning provides strategic leadership and oversight of functions in the School of Nursing, including: human resource planning and management; budget/financial planning and academic resource management; enrolment management and program development; physical resources/facilities planning; and unit policies, procedures and operations. Working under the direction of the Executive Officer in the Faculty of Health, the Manager Resources and Planning acts as a policy advisor to the Director, School of Nursing (Director) and executive committee; leads, motivates and develops management and staff teams; produces reports, plans and position papers for the School and Dean’s Office; and initiates organizational development/ change management strategies to address structural, cultural and operational needs of the School.
University degree is required. An MBA or other relevant graduate degree is preferred.
Minimum 6 years’ senior managerial experience in a university or comparable institutional environment including managing budgets; long-range planning, analysis, policy development, and managing staff in a unionized environment. Broad understanding of the goals and objectives of a University required. Knowledge of the decision-making processes at York University would be an asset.
Demonstrated and thorough knowledge and superior skills in budgetary planning, management and control; in depth knowledge of university financial, budget and procurement policies and practices for core areas of responsibility; advanced knowledge of human resources management practices; excellent organizational and management skills and ability to exercise them effectively in a wide range of administrative areas; excellent oral and written communication with proven report writing skills; demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team; excellent interpersonal skills; proven ability to exercise initiative and good judgment; highly developed analytical and planning skills; numerical skills; ability to multi-task; advanced knowledge of Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint. Knowledge of on-line financial reporting systems. Working knowledge of web technologies would be an asset. . Advanced knowledge of academic and staff collective agreements and their application. Thorough knowledge of academic administrative processes and governance to develop and maintain efficient and effective administrative practices at all levels within the School;. Detailed knowledge of health and safety requirements for local departments to establish School policies and procedures in accordance with university and regulatory requirements. Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in change management and organizational/leadership development.
