PERT is a nonprofit organization that seeks to address the employability issues faced by English-speaking Quebecers. Initially a project of YES Montreal, PERT launched as its own organization in September 2020 and is currently scaling up its research and engagement activities.

Position Summary/What you’ll be doing
Reporting to the Policy & Research Director, the Policy Researcher (1 year contract, full-time) assists in the development of PERT’s policy knowledge through research and analysis. The successful candidate will help expand the research capacity of the organization and solidify its expertise on employment policy, economic development, the labour market, skills and second-language training, and regional disparities among a range of policy issues.

Primary Responsibilities/What can I expect to do in this role?

  • Conduct extensive literature and document reviews of social and policy aspects of employment and economic development
  • Analyze and visualize quantitative and qualitative data to draw conclusions and make recommendations
  • Develop policy proposals, briefs, recommendations, discussion papers and reports
  • Administration of surveys, interviews, focus groups, polls and other data collection methods

Requirements

Our ideal candidate has the following skills and experience:

  • Experience with conducting research or developing policy in the social sciences, including analysis, writing, copy editing, formatting references and checking sources
  • Ability to interpret large amounts of qualitative and quantitative data and extract key learnings
  • Excellent knowledge of Excel (knowledge of statistical packages an asset)
  • Experience with data collection methods (polls, interviews, focus groups, surveys etc.)
  • Excellent bilingual (English and French) verbal and written communication skills
  • Highly self-driven, capable of working independently and prioritizing projects across multiple files under strict deadlines
  • Rigorous, thorough, ethical, collaborative and well-organized

Job specifications
Position:

  • 1 year contract position, full-time (with the possibility of extension depending on needs and funding)
  • Salary range: $45,000 – $50,000, commensurate with experience and skills
  • Paid vacation: 15 days per year, in addition to the office being closed between December 24 and January 1 inclusive
  • Possibility of health and dental benefits
  • Position start date: May 2021
