Position Purpose Summary:

To provide Maintenance work and support to the facility at The Honey church Family Life Resource Centre.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsibilities encompass the facility operated by The Salvation Army.  Travel between the facility and suppliers as required
  • Ensure a high standard of cleanliness and maintenance for work assigned
  • Inspect interior facilities as directed, including lighting, plumbing, fire extinguishers and exits, common-use doors, alarms, appliances, HVAC, exhaust vents/fans, electrical, paint laundry services etc.
  • Ensure the general upkeep of external property including clearance of snow and ice from sidewalks, de-icing of same, garbage receptacle collection, litter collection from grounds and the reporting of hazards
  • Responsible for access keys, cards and combinations needed to gain access to perform duties
  • Make purchases on behalf of the unit of maintenance items and supplies as required
  • Restock supplies within the facilities as required
  • Storage areas within facilities; ensure electrical, sprinkler, janitor rooms, and storage rooms meet regulations for storage and maintenance
  • Maintain inspection/maintenance logs of work completed
  • Carry out minor repairs in a variety of trades such as electrical, mechanical, carpentry, plumbing, plaster repair, painting, and hardware repair
  • Program vehicles: ensure proper documentation is maintained in the vehicles and take vehicles in for servicing as directed
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships with other employees in areas of responsibility
  • Deal effectively with outside contractors and supplies.  Assist contractors while on site, as required
  • Adhere to Basic Certification and site specific Certification from WSIB in Health & Safety
  • Adhere to WHMIS standards
  • May participate as a member of the Occupational Health and Safety Committee for the unit, as directed.  Assist the shelter managements with adherence to Health and Safety policy in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Wear protective clothing and footwear as required
  • Participate in staff meetings, seminars, and training sessions and outside courses as requested
  • As applicable in areas of responsibility, make recommendations to improve efficiency, working conditions and health and safety
  • Perform additional duties and projects in areas of responsibility as determined by the Property Manager

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school graduate, plus specialized courses as required
  • Minimum two years related experience
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Deals professional with confidential information and documents
  • Able to multi-task in an environment where events are unpredictable and urgent in nature
  • Ability to work independently and achieve deadlines
  • Can identify and solve work related problems
  • Ability to use a variety of basic tools and operate cleaning machinery
  • Able to learn and use in-house software
  • Basic certification and site specific Certification from WSIB in Health & Safety – within 90 days of hire
  • Certificate in WHMIS – within 90 days of hire
  • Additional training in the area of Health & Safety as required
  • Valid driver’s license

Successful candidate will be required to provide upon hiring:

  • A clear vulnerable sector screening
  • A clean drivers abstract
  • Participate in our online Armatus Abuse Training and Health and Safety training required upon hiring, as well as updated annually

HOURS: 24 hours per week
