Outreach Director

The CPSN is a non-profit organization aiming to implement Peer Support Centres across Canada. We aim to improve mental health services available on university campuses by empowering students to help their peers.

*
Background

Problem: The number of students arriving at university reporting mental health concerns is now five times higher than ten years ago with approximately 20% of Canadian youth affected by a mental illness or disorder – the single most disabling group of disorders worldwide. These statistics illustrate the severity of the mental health crisis at Canadian universities.

Solution: We believe that a solution to this crisis lies in peer support, which we define as a free (volunteer-based) resource that relies on face-to-face, empathetic, and non-judgmental active listening provided by a trained peer (another student) with similar lived experiences. To accomplish this, we have founded the Canadian Peer Support Network (CPSN), which aims to empower young adults through peer support skills training to help one another with their mental health. We are looking for dedicated and motivated individuals to join our team.
