The McGill Genome Centre advances genomics in medical research through its research programs and other major initiatives. We provide a cutting-edge integrated research environment that harnesses the most recent advances in genomics and other areas of large-scale biology, with quantitative methodology and computational analysis for breakthroughs in medical and life sciences research.
The Centre is currently seeking a motivated and experienced individual for the position of research assistant. Under the direction of the Head of Genome Sciences, the research assistant position will be focused on the processing and analysis of samples from CANPREVENT study on transplantation genomics funded by Genome Canada. This study aims to develop and apply next and third generation sequencing approaches in HLA-typing. T he incumbent will be involved in all aspects of the laboratory workflows involved in next generation sequencing research projects using state-of-the-art equipment.
Position Summary:
Reception and banking of nucleic acid samples
Extraction of DNA/RNA from a variety of samples
Performing QC on incoming nucleic acid samples
Work on methodologies related to NGS library preparation
Perform high throughput genotyping
Operation of state-of-the-art genomics instruments
Troubleshooting of laboratory processes
Optimization of workflows
Utilize Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) system
Methodical adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs)
Qualifications:
M.Sc. with minimum of two (2) years of experience in a genomics laboratory, preferably in a high throughput environment performing either genotyping or next generation sequencing
Previous experience in a regulated laboratory environment is useful (SOP adherence, GLP, ISO, CLIA, etc.)
Solid background in molecular biology
Strong organizational and communication skills;
Ability to work well both individually and in a team
Proficiency with Laboratory information Management System (LIMS) environments and MS Office
