        Responsibilities
        
                        Position Purpose Summary:
Boundless Vancouver Community Ministries organizes The Salvation Army Boundless Vancouver Christmas Toy Shop for children and families. The Christmas Volunteer & Donation Coordinator works with our Boundless Vancouver team to organize our volunteers and coordinate donations for The Christmas Toy Shop and the Christmas Luncheon.
BASIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Volunteer Coordination: 

Works in conjunction with and in support of The Christmas Toy Shop by identifying and promoting volunteer opportunities
Recruit, screen, register & orient appropriate volunteers to fill positions
Process necessary paperwork, including Criminal Record Checks and volunteer agreement packages
Deploy volunteers to positions relevant to their interests and skills
Help orientate and supervise volunteers while they are deployed to their positions
Keep thorough records of volunteer information and hours of service for statistical purposes

Donation Coordination: 

Work in conjunction with and in support of the Christmas campaigns, identifying the financial and in-kind donation needs for Christmas distribution
Solicit financial and in-kind donations and correspond in a timely manner with individuals and corporate donors in the community; organize toy drives with companies and organizations in the community
Coordinate drop-off and pick up schedule with donors and driver(s)
Help coordinate with divisional Public Relations team for the Toy Mountain event
Relay donated items to the appropriate personnel for proper storage and distribution
Keep thorough records of donor information and donated items/amounts & maintain a positive relationship with our donors
Perform other duties as assigned

 
                    
                

        Qualifications
        
                        Education/Certifications:

Post-secondary education and work experience in fund-raising, donor relations, public relations

Experience:

One (1) to three (3) years of relevant experience, including experience working in customer service related fields

Required Skills/Knowledge:

Excellent organizational skills
Superior relationship building skills and the ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a confident, collaborative and professional manner
Proven ability to multitask
Be able to work independently; demonstrated self-starter and team player
Excellent verbal communication skills in person and on the phone
Excellent written communication skills
Proficient computer skills and familiarity with Google Suite and Microsoft Office
Ability to learn new software quickly and teach others
Be able to lift up to 30 lbs

 
PREFERRED SKILLS/capabilities: 

Valid BC Driver’s License
Background check consent
A clear vulnerable sector screening
A clean drivers’ abstract
Completion of online Armatus Abuse Prevention Training and required Health and Safety training

Description

The caseworker provides support for live-in program participants and guidance to adults with chronic mental health needs. Responsible for teaching and assisting clients with life skills and fostering inclusion to enhance independence.

DAYS and HOURS of work: Monday to Friday (8 am – 4 pm)

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Implement case plans and monitor progress.
  • Provides advocacy services.
  • Implements emergency/incidental behavioral interventions, including utilizing Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training.
  • Provides immediate stabilization crisis management support and provides emergency incidental behavior management.
  • Implements formal sessions for clients or refers them to external agencies that offer formal sessions on a variety of topics including anger management; grief and loss; sexuality; self-esteem; abuse; violence; addictions and personal safety.
  • Ensures clients understand and adhere to program rules and responsibilities
  • Assists Primary Caseworker in completing assessments regarding client’s life skills, safety and physical/emotional risk.
  • Also implements emergency behavioral interventions and identifies and documents potential problematic or maladaptive behaviors
  • Administers medications according to prescriptions and agency policy when required
  • Ensures the program safety policies are followed at all times.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Post-secondary education with a focus on social work or nursing (required)
  • Two years’ experience working as a support worker in a live-in support/outreach setting
  • Verbal Judo and/or NVCI
  • Mental First Aid
  • Suicide Intervention
  • Life Skill and Recreational programming for high needs clients
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Clean driver’s abstract
  • Provide a current Criminal Record Check including Vulnerable Sector Check (mandatory)

Experience:

  • 2 years’ experience in a mental health setting preferred

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • Have excellent communications, critical thinking and keen observation skills, attention to detail, and have a compassionate and caring attitude.
  • Proficiency with email, MS Word, MS Excel, and Outlook an asset
  • Be willing to demonstrate the mandate of The Salvation Army Mission Statement and always adhere to the Salvation Army Yellowknife’s Code of Conduct.
  • Be able to relate well to people and function well under pressure
  • Case management and counselling skills
  • Effective assessment, observation and recording skills
  • Understanding and skilled in working with: Aboriginal and Inuit Cultures: Addictions: Mental Health and other social issues
  • Effective interpersonal communication and interactive skills with individuals experiencing chronic mental health issues, effects of intoxication and other behavioural issue.
