Security Technology Advisor

Purpose:
The Security Technology Advisor is responsible for providing administrative, technical and project support for security technology projects (e.g. camera & door access installations) and day to day operation and maintenance of security technology throughout the university

Education:
College diploma in Electrical or Electronic Engineering or an equivalent of 2 years recent experience (defined as within the last three years) working at York University and performing the same or similar tasks. This education equivalency is in addition to the experiential requirements outlined below. Project Management (PMP or CSPM preferred), CEPTED and Certified Engineering Technologist certificate an asset.

Experience:
Three (3) years relevant related experience working in a Security Technology and project management environment dealing directly with professional consultants, general contractor, vendors, end users including onsite monitoring and inspection. Experience in a large organization or college / university environment is an asset.

Skills:
Demonstrated skills including:

  • Security Technology System architecture (CCTV {analogue and IP} Access Control (Honeywell Pro-Watch and MaxPro preferred).
  • Thorough understanding of Security technology industry and best practices.
  • Basic understanding of Security Operations.
  • Ability to accesses specifications and read drawings in various paper and electronic formats.
  • Working knowledge of Building Codes, Planning, Design and construction related terminology.
  • Good working knowledge of safety codes and regulations as they relate to construction sites.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Ability to exercise tact and courtesy in dealing with others.
  • Ability to run multiple projects concurrently.
  • Strong understanding of access control software (Pro-Watch preferred).
  • Strong understanding of IP video systems (MaxPro preferred).
  • Strong understanding of Intrusion system and monitoring stations (DSC preferred).
  • Strong working knowledge of door hardware (Locks, electronic hardware, etc.).
  • Basic understanding of the Ontario Fire CodeDemonstrated computer skills including:
  • Basic knowledge of latest versions of AutoCad and other drawing/graphing programs (Viso, Navisworks and BIM).
  • Basic knowledge of project management software (MS Project).
  • Basic word processing (MS Word).
  • Basic spreadsheet (MS Excel).
  • Email (Outlook).
  • Basic network operations (Vlan’s, subnets, MAC addresses).
