Job Posting – Writing Instructor (Unit 3)

Nature of the assignment: University College Writing Instructor (2021 Summer Session) – Posting

Assignment description: University College Writing Centre invites applications for up to two (2) writing instructor positions. The positions will involve online instruction to English language learners.

Estimate number of positions available: up to 2 positions
Hours of Work (per position): up to 55 hours – subject to change
Schedule Information: None
Sessional Dates of Appointment: variable hours from Monday to Friday from 9am –6pm
Dates of Appointment: 1 May 2021 – 30 August 2021

Salary: $47.94/hour plus 4% vacation (Writing Instructor 1)
$51.55/hour plus 6% vacation (Writing Instructor 2)
$53.06/hour plus 6% vacation (Writing Instructor 2 – Priority)
All positions are subject to budgetary approval. Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.

Qualifications: Completed graduate degree from a post-secondary institution required. Relevant experience teaching writing one-on-one or teaching in university courses with a writing component preferred. Previous experience in a writing centre and training and experience in second-language instruction at the university level preferred. Experience studying or teaching science considered an asset.

Description of Duties: Instructors can expect to help students with writing assignments from a variety of disciplines in online sessions. Instructors may also be asked to deliver online group instruction on general writing skills or in the context of specific College program courses. They may also be asked to deliver workshops in late August as part of the Getting Started Early program (mode of delivery is to be determined). The exact duties and schedule will be worked out in consultation with the director of the Writing Centre.
