Description
Within the context and mission of the Salvation Army Oshawa Temple, give direction to and oversee all aspects of the summer day camp program with regards to children who require extra behavioral support. This position will allow the camp to include children who may not be accepted in other camps due to their higher needs.
This Day Camp seeks to provide excellent children’s programming, including families that would otherwise be unable to afford a summer day camp experience for their children. This camp will either be in person or virtual, depending on Covid 19 restrictions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work directly with Day Camp staff to support campers who require extra behavioral support. This includes providing strategies for camp staff to use and teaching on the protocols/procedures on behavioral supports
- Works directly with families to ensure that the best supports possible are in place for each individual child
- Review camper applications and provide counselors with the relevant information on each campers needs
- Implement behavior supports into the day-to-day operations of the program. This includes (but is not limited to) recreational games, crafts, Bible lessons, and other scheduled events
- Work one on one with children when necessary but also assist counselors in running the day to day program
- Monitor campers with behavioral needs and work with all parties (families/coordinators/counselors) to facilitate a plan for each camper
- Work directly with the Day Camp counselors to support and encourage them
- Ensure that best practices for behavioral concerns are followed at all times
- Attend all online staff training/orientation and meetings
- Participate in the Summer Day Camp mentoring program for Day Camp staff and campers
- Uphold all health and safety regulations
- Work cooperatively with the Day Camp and assistant Coordinators, church staff and volunteers in all aspects of the program
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Be between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusively) at the time of intake/selection
- Able to work within a Christian atmosphere and to promote the goals of the program and the mission of the Salvation Army
- Must be comfortable teaching/interacting with campers/staff over Zoom/Online virtual programming and be comfortable with pre-recording items for day camp
- Possess leadership qualities, be organized, hardworking, dedicated and creative
- Previous experience working with children
- Works well independently and is a team player
- Complete training in the Salvation Army Territorial Headquarters Online safety protocols and procedures
- Complete all necessary Covid-19 hygiene requirements as well as any Public health safety measures
- Have or be willing to get Standard First Aid and CPR
- Be available for full 9 weeks of program
Successful candidate will be required to provide upon hiring:
- A clear vulnerable sector screening
- A clear internal abuse registry check
- Participate in our online Armatus Abuse Training and Health and Safety training required upon hiring, as well as updated annually
HOURS: 35 hours a week
