Projets Autochtones du Québec (PAQ) is a not-for-profit organization offering shelter and culturally adapted activities and services to homeless and at-risk First Nations, Inuit, and Métis women and men. Located in downtown Montreal, our centre provides emergency shelter and a hot dinner and light breakfast 365 nights a year for 16 women and 36 men. PAQ’s transitional housing program offers 16 studio apartments for Indigenous women and men at risk of homelessness, or who are in search of a stable living environment. PAQ provides a sense of belonging and trust developed through community events, psycho-social and crisis support, access to legal and health services, and indigenous cultural and arts programs. As an essential service, PAQ’s shelter remains open during the COVID-19 outbreak, although at a reduced capacity. A second temporary shelter is now in operation to ensure a safe space for everyone.
In order to strengthen its intervention team, PAQ is recruiting experienced intervention workers for evening and overnight shifts. PAQ will provide training. The monthly work schedule is published two weeks before the month starts, however ability to also work on an ‘on-call’ basis is helpful.
Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Program and Services Manager:
Welcomes and admits Indigenous women and men wishing to stay at PAQ’s shelter.
Provides support and intervention tailored to the needs of participants.
Facilitates and fosters group life and the feeling of community with participants.
Maintains the stability, security and cleanliness of the premises and ensures compliance with PAQ regulations.
Serves meals and ensures the proper functioning of the community room.
Intervenes in crisis or emergency situations and responds to the needs of residents according to PAQ procedures and services.
Completes relevant documents, statistics and reports.
Coordinates household tasks by participants to ensure the cleanliness of the premises.
Participates in team meetings and trainings.
Provides scheduling flexibility and availability to work replacement shifts.
Performs any other task assigned by the Services Coordinator or the Team Leader, if necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum experience of six months in the field of intervention, social work, or other similar fields related to helping relationships.
Experience living or working with Indigenous communities or people.
Experience working or volunteering with people experiencing homelessness, addictions or mental health issues is a strong asset.
Bilingualism (functional French and English) + Aboriginal languages an asset

Ability to work in a team
First aid certification will be an asset.
Job status and schedule:
Part-time position (up to 35 hours per week) according to the schedule established by PAQ.
Salary: $ 19.00 / hour + COVID bonus of $1/hour for day and evening shifts and $3/hour for overnight shifts
