Grande Prairie Regional College (GPRC) is a comprehensive community institution, established in 1966 in Grande Prairie, and our stewardship region includes campuses in Fairview and Grande Prairie. GPRC offers a wide variety of credit and non-credit career certificates and diplomas, pre-employment and apprenticeship trades, university transfer studies, and several opportunities for on-campus degree completion through collaborations with four-year universities. The Department

The English Instructor role will be in the Arts and Education department. This department encompasses our Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Arts programs, but here at GPRC we also have many diploma and certificate programs that require an English component.

The Role

The Department of Arts and Education requires a Full-Time Sessional English Instructor to teach a combination of junior- and senior-level English courses. This role is coverage for a sabbatical leave from August 15, 2021 to April 30, 2022.

Job Requirements

Successful candidates are required to hold a Master’s degree in English. Preference will be given to a Ph.D. in English who can provide evidence of successful instruction of junior undergraduate courses in English, as well as experience with various pedagogical strategies and familiarity with a post-secondary teaching environment.

Necessary skills and attributes to be successful in this role include

  • Knowledge of design and development of undergraduate English courses;
  • Knowledge of GPRC courses and current educational technologies such as Zoom or Brightspace (D2L) commonly found in classrooms;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook; working knowledge of Matador an asset;
  • Student-focused;
  • Strong organizational skills;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to build strong relationships across the organization; and
  • A high level of integrity, professionalism, and accountability.
