Unit Summary

The Child and Youth Mental Health Outpatient Team is an integral part of the Child and Youth Mental Health Program at McMaster Children’s Hospital. This team provides psychiatric consultation, individual and family mental health assessment and treatment, and group treatment to those experiencing complex mental health difficulties (many with comorbidities) and is affiliated with the Faculty of Health Sciences and Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences, McMaster University and the Offord Centre for Child Studies. With approximately 6,000 annual visits and 1,300 referrals this multidisciplinary team works with partners including pediatricians, family physicians, education, child welfare and other community agencies in the provision of comprehensive and evidence based mental health services to children and youth residing in Hamilton

Position Summary

The Psychometrist will work in a multi-disciplinary team providing psychological services including consultation and assessment to our mental health client population experiencing complex mental health difficulties (many with comorbidities). The Psychometrist will follow the professional standards and regulations of Psychology and provide specialized psychological services to identified mental health clients whose cognitive, emotional, behavioral or social dysfunction impacts upon their adaptive, social and /or academic functioning. The Psychometrist will work under the supervision of a Psychologist. The Psychometrist will be expected to maintain a current knowledge of up to date and new testing instruments

Schedule Work Hours

Monday to Friday; days (flexibility in working hours may be required)

Qualifications

1. Masters Degree in Psychology, with coursework in psychometrics/psychological assessment

2. Three to five years of related experience working in mental health services for children and youth

3. Experience in administering psychological measures to children and adolescents, and completing assessments within

given timelines

4. Demonstrated knowledge of current testing instruments

5. Demonstrated skill in writing psychological reports under the supervision of a psychologist

6. Demonstrated excellent communication skills in providing feedback and consultation to clients and to colleagues

7. Demonstrated commitment to team work and professional development

8. Willingness to participate in a criminal reference screening process

9. Must be able to obtain a valid Vulnerable Sector Screen (VSS)
