Instructor, Work Skills
Term: As soon as possible to August 12, 2021
Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm (35 hours/week)
Location: Main Street Campus and/or remotely as required
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Workforce Development & Community Initiatives, the Instructor, Work Skills, will develop programming, instruct, and assist with the development of the MITT Work Skills (adaptability, collaboration, communication, problem solving, initiative and professionalism). These skills are in high demand from employers and are transferable between jobs and sectors.
The Instructor is responsible for the facilitation of the Work Skills curriculum in-person or blended learning options.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Develops new and enhance existing Work Skills curriculum
Provides instruction and/or supports to students utilizing the Work Skills curriculum.
Prepares, administers, and evaluates assignments and assessments; provides marks and feedback to students on their assessment items in a timely manner to ensure they have time to learn and improve;
Plans lessons and classroom activities, consistently demonstrating preparedness for class;
Fosters accountability, teamwork, and collaboration in students, preparing activities that focus on both individual and group work;
Uses relevant technology to support instruction; including the use of MITT’s Learning Management System and remote learning tools such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams
Communicates and collaborates with other members of instructional staff, either in the same program area or another program.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
A combination of relevant work experience and education will be considered.
Minimum of 3-5 years of recent, related work experience
Completion of Certificate in Adult Education or related discipline
Preference may be given to individuals of Indigenous ancestry
Experience in instructing, training or facilitating
Commitment to ongoing professional development in adult learning principles and methodologies
Commitment to supporting culturally and socio-economically diverse learning environment; experience working with diverse student cohorts and adult learners.
Knowledge and experience relating the skills that employers’ require for workplace success to learning outcomes
Demonstrate ability to communicate and collaborate with various peers and leaders across business functions and departments
Work well independently and with limited supervision
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong computer skills including Microsoft Outlook, PowerPoint, Word
Experience using a Learning Management System is an asset
Experience delivering content using online learning tools and platforms (i.e. Zoom, MS Teams) is preferred
