Reporting to the Director, Port Alberni/West Coast, Geography 2, the Rural Site Director is accountable for directing all aspects of health care services provided by Island Health within the West Coast, Acute and Community service areas. This includes supporting strategic direction for culturally safe patient/client care delivery, operational and facility planning, human resource development, financial management, quality management and education. The Rural Site Director provides leadership to manage and implement change, liaises with and receives advice from local Aboriginal organizations and the Alberni Clayoquot Health Network and ensures an environment that supports both professional practice and alignment with Island Health s culture, values and strategic direction.
The Rural Site Director is responsible for Tofino General Hospital, the Bamfield Health Center, and community services for the west coast. The Rural Site Director ensures service standards and best practices are maintained for Acute and Community Services through a matrix relationship with Island Health departments responsible for patient/client services across the region. The Rural Site Director facilitates service agreements with other Island Health departments operating in the region to ensure service standards are maintained. Liaises with all programs providing services to the West Coast to ensure a safe work environment and service commitments to the community. Works in collaboration with the Medical Staff on local medical staffing and quality issues. Collaborates with the Tofino General Hospital Foundation to facilitate their activities and works in collaboration with outside agencies and partners with shared interests.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Training And Experience
A level of education, training and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant health discipline and nine (9) years of relevant managerial experience. Appropriate certification, license or professional designation. Master’s degree preferred.
Skills And Abilities
Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
Demonstrated leadership ability in the context of evolving needs and skills in negotiating creative solutions.
Ability to integrate administrative, professional and operational aspects of the service areas throughout the Vancouver Island Health Authority in an effective and efficient manner.
Ability to develop and nurture an environment where quality improvement principles are embraced and used on a continuous basis.
Strong management skills, particularly in staff and budget areas.
Ability to work effectively with staff, physicians and community members.
Experience in a cross-cultural context preferred.
