Facilities Assistant Summer Student 2021

Established in 1976 the Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies (SIIT) is a First Nation governed post-secondary institution. Recognized under provincial legislation, the Institute has been conferred authority to grant certificates and diplomas. Nature and Scope

This work term runs until August 26, 2021.

This summer student position will have the opportunity to gain experience in SIIT’s Facilities department while developing the skills necessary to be successful in their future. The summer student will have an opportunity to improve their teamwork and communication skills, as well as, their leadership capabilities. As an employee of SIIT, this position will positively promote and create an environment that demonstrates SIIT’s vision, mission and mandate.

General Accountabilities

Reporting to the Director of Facilities, the incumbent provides support within the Facilities department while maintaining excellent customer service. This position includes the following broad range of accountabilities:

Specific Accountabilities

Performing minor maintenance/repairs that require the ability to safely use a variety of tools/equipment

Move, deliver, assemble and record inventory records of tables, chairs, desks and other office furniture

Provide spot cleaning services within buildings and their associated grounds

Examine doors, windows, and garage gates to determine they are secure

Minor administrative functions

Eligible participants are:
First Nations and Inuit secondary and post-secondary students aged 15 to 30 inclusive

Ordinarily resident on reserve or in recognized communities or on community lands

Legally entitled to work in Canada

Registered as full-time students during the preceding academic year and who intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year

Position requirements:
Prior experience working with Microsoft Office suite of programs is an asset; ability to perform physical activities and lift up to 50 pounds. Valid driver’s license as there is potential for travel and overnight layovers at remote SIIT locations.
