Description
This is a Temporary Full-Time position (CSJ) based on 35 hrs per week for an 8 week period, under the Canada Summer Jobs Program. Flexibility in scheduling is required. The work schedule is determined in consultation with your supervisor and may vary according to requirements of responsibility. Applicable shifts include a ½ hour unpaid meal break. Local travel may be required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for assisting the Community Engagement Manager with volunteer management. In a cooperative and team-based environment, the incumbent will oversee and supervise a large number of volunteers. The incumbent will organize and coordinate all volunteers and volunteer efforts.
- Manage community volunteers and service groups which includes their recruitment, hiring, orientation, and scheduling.
- Monitor and report on the performance of all volunteers.
- Assist in developing goals and objectives for the volunteer program.
- Represent the Community Engagement Manager for volunteers check ins, site orientations and general enquiries.
- Assist with the development, implementation and review of policies and procedures relating to the volunteer program.
- Recruits, selects and interviews volunteers to meet program and event needs as a part of the selection and interview committee.
- Assist with developing assignment descriptions and other appropriate materials to guide volunteers in their overall performance.
- Create and assist in presentations promoting volunteer opportunities to corporations, schools and the general public as required.
- Monitor the performance of all volunteers to ensure high quality services are provided to our clients and other departments.
- Maintain files on volunteers.
- Provide visibility for The Salvation Army within the community through relationships with people and corporations in our community.
- Recruit volunteers for all programming through all available channels.
- Liaison and network with community leaders, corporate executives and social agencies.
- Ensure divisional standard is followed for all volunteers.
- Perform other position related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Completion of up to two (2) years of Community College.
- Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
- Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License, personal vehicle required with valid insurance, current copy of driver’s abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.
- Must provide an original copy of a Background Check
- May require screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.
- Minimum of two (2) years prior related experience.
- Previous experience in volunteer coordination and office management, preferably in a non-profit environment.
