ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF CARE (Full Time)- Tendercare

Candidates are invited to apply for the above position of Assistant Director of Care at Tendercare Living Centre. We are a 200 bed Long term Care Home, located in Scarborough Ontario.

SCOPE

The Assistant Director of Care reports to the Director of Care, and in this role assists in the management of all aspects of nursing care within the home to ensure quality resident care and compliance with required legislation

RESPONSIBILITIES

Assists the Director of Care as assigned to:
Plan, organize, direct and supervise the activities of the Nursing Department to provide quality resident care.

Interpret nursing philosophy and establish, implement and measure goals and objectives, policies and procedures in compliance with applicable legislation.

Select, supervise and support nursing staff; monitors and evaluate performance to assure a high level of productivity and ensures the homes’ nursing objectives are met.

Participate in the development, implementation and monitoring of policies and procedures

Organize and conduct unit meetings

Act as a clinical role model, clinical resource person and collaborate with other professionals within the care team.

Ensure the provision of nursing and resident care standards are consistent with the organization’s mission statement, nursing department philosophy, goals and objectives and nursing performance standards.

Ensure required documentation completed for all psychotropic medication as per policy.

Ensure distribution of Government Pharmacy supply medications to units

Devote at least 80 % of time on clinical monitoring, support, education, development, evaluation and in pursuit of continuous quality improvements related to care and services

QUALIFICATIONS

Registered Nurse with a current certificate of competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario, and in good standing. Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.

Knowledge of the Long term Care Homes Act, 2007

Comprehensive knowledge of nursing and health care practices and techniques and experience in long term care

Minimum of three (3) years experience in a long term care setting and knowledge of applicable legislation.

Previous management experience in a long term care setting and knowledge of applicable legislation.

Human relation skills required to handle a variety of interactions with residents, families, staff and the public.

Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety practices, principles and legislation

Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Computer literacy skills
