What we do
The Newfoundland and Labrador Centre for Health Information (the Centre) provides quality information to health professionals, the public, researchers and health system decision makers. Through collaboration with the health system, the Centre supports the development of data and technical standards, maintains key health databases, carries out analytics and evaluation and supports health research. The Centre supports the regional health authorities, as well as the patients and communities they serve, in the delivery of information technology and eHealth services applied in the healthcare system to provide quality care. The Centre’s mandate also includes the development and implementation of a confidential and secure provincial electronic health record as well as other provincial clinical information programs, including the change management required to support adoption by end user clinicians.
About the Role
As a member of the Data and Information Services team, the successful incumbent will be responsible for the following:
Lead health analytics, epidemiologic, surveillance, and health system performance initiatives which support the decision-making needs of the regional health authorities, Department of Health and Community Services and other government departments. This includes data processing, data linkage, complex data analysis, interpretation of findings using both epidemiological and statistical knowledge, and preparation of reports and other knowledge transfer tools.
Develop information for government to assess the impact of potential policy changes on the health system.
Exercise sound judgement and undertake in-depth assessment to make recommendations regarding the appropriate collection and use of data to support the information needs of government.
Respond to requests for information from health system stakeholders through stakeholder consultation, data linkage, statistical analysis, interpretation of findings, and preparation of reports and other knowledge transfer tools.
Serve as a subject matter expert and provides consultation to external stakeholders who are requesting record-level data from the Centre.
Liaise with multiple stakeholders including federal/ provincial/regional levels of government, the academic community and professional agencies.
About You
Your Skills/Abilities
Experienced in data extraction and linkage.
Experienced in SAS.
Understanding of the health care system, administrative health data and electronic health information systems.
Knowledge of and work experience in health analytics, epidemiology, and surveillance.
Ability to function in high pressure, diverse, and changing environment.
Exceptional attention to detail.
Outstanding time management and organizational skills.
Self-motivated and able to work independently as well in a team environment.
Assets
Knowledge and experience with the use of health information systems such as Meditech.
Experience using business intelligence tools (e.g., Cognos/SAP).
Knowledge and experience with the use of visualization tools and GIS mapping software.
Your Experience and Education
Master’s degree in epidemiology, community health, public health, social sciences or a related field.
A minimum of five years experience in a health analytics field leading initiatives involving extraction and linkage of large amounts of data and application of epidemiologic methods.
Preference will be given to candidates with experience in chronic disease surveillance, primary healthcare, health service utilization, health outcomes, health system costing, and health system performance.
Experience collaborating with stakeholders within the health system.
Equivalencies may be considered.
