The Opportunity:
Under the guidance and direction of the Supervisor of Court Services, the summer student position is responsible for supporting the Court Administration Clerks with tasks including but not limited to providing customer service and accurate processing, keying, and filing of charging documents. The summer student position will regularly utilize both the Provincial database (ICON) and the Court Administration Management System (CAMS) computer systems. Overall, this position plays an integral role in assisting the section perform duties of the Clerk of the Court.

The successful applicant to this position will perform and/or assist with the following tasks:

Receive charging documents and ensure the documents are filed within legislated time frames.

Prepare Court and Fail to Respond dockets by matching charging documents to the ICON produced daily court listing of charges and defendants.

Uses various computer software and databases (e.g., ICON, CAMS, word processing, spreadsheets, etc.) to record, maintain, process, and retrieve data pertaining to court as well as for recording statistical data.

Process fine payments by mail and balance daily receipts.

Receive inquires with respect to court administration and payment processing.

Assist with other related duties as assigned or required.

Education (degree/diploma/certifications)

Currently enrolled in or is a student in College, or University in legal administration or related discipline.

  • Must have attended one of the academic establishments listed above the year in which they are applying for employment and/or returning the following year.

Experience

Demonstrated customer service experience.

Demonstrated cash handling experience in an office environment.

Knowledge/Skill/Ability

Knowledge of the Provincial Offences Act and Highway Traffic Act

Demonstrated ability to:
Maintain a high standard of public relations and professionalism at all times when eliciting information and responding to inquiries and complaints.

Work independently with minimal supervision as well as in a team environment.

Intermediate computer literacy using Microsoft Office 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)

Conditions of Employment

Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s Licence in good standing with a reliable vehicle for use on corporate business

Satisfactory Criminal Record Check

Ability to travel to and work in the Barrie Court Services office, if required

Other Important Information:
Work Term: Up to 12 weeks (June – September)

Wage: $16.59 to $21.48 per hour

Hours: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm
