YukonU Instructor, Indigenous Governance

Support our northern and Indigenous learners to flourish, grow, and blossom into our leaders of tomorrow by joining our faculty in Indigenous Governance.

Building from the courage and resolve of Yukon First Nations in trailblazing self-government agreements, Yukon University’s Bachelor of Arts in Indigenous Governance program is the first degree program to be created and offered fully in northern Canada.

Developed in strong collaboration with the 14 Yukon First Nations, the curriculum weaves western and Indigenous worldviews to explore perspectives on the evolution of Indigenous self-determination in Yukon, Canada and internationally.

First offered in 2018, this ground-breaking program is the culmination of years of meaningful partnership and collaboration with Yukon First Nations. It aims to build northern leadership capacity by providing students with the values, knowledge and skills to work collaboratively within the unique governance landscape of the North.

Successful candidates will have a completed (or near completed) doctoral degree in any of the following subject areas: Indigenous Governance, Political Science (emphasis on Indigenous Political thought), or Indigenous Public Administration. Other related backgrounds such as Economic Development, Indigenous Studies, Law, or Community and Organizational Development would also be considered.

As a faculty member, you will be a mentor to students, building their confidence and capacity, and supporting them to recognize their full potential. Successful candidates will also have research experience in any of the above fields, preferably in partnership with Indigenous, northern or remote communities, and previous experience in the delivery of undergraduate degree programs and courses.

Prior experience in any of the following will be considered assets: teaching Indigenous, students and/or students in remote communities, curriculum development and program assessment, teaching through distance-education technologies, teaching in an adult-education environment.
