T he Division Horizon operates a $45 million dollar budget and serves approximately 3,500 students in ten vibrant rural communities: Lomond, Enchant, Vauxhall, Hays, Barnwell, Grassy Lake, Warner, Milk River, Coutts, and Taber. There are 15 schools, 3 Outreach Programs, 2 Alternative Christian programs, and 19 Hutterian Brethren Colony Schools served by a quality staff comprised of over 200 teachers and 150 non-teaching staff. D i vision Office Taber is located approximately 50 km east of Lethbridge and 260 km southeast of Calgary. The population of Taber is approximately 8,500. The economy is diversified with agriculture, petroleum production, and secondary service industry.
T he Candidate The successful candidate will demonstrate success in analyzing contexts, and have the ability to make decisions about what leadership knowledge and abilities to apply, in order to achieve quality leadership, teaching and optimum learning for all students. The candidate must be a student-centered educator, demonstrate success in fostering effective relationships, and be able to lead systemic change initiatives that move the division towards a preferred future based on common values. The candidate should possess an understanding of structuring services to meet the needs of all students. They should be well versed in instructional practices and possess the ability to lead in alignment with the division’s vision, values, and strategic priorities.
Responsibilities could include serving as a Division Leader in Learner Services supporting the Inclusive Learning Department, curriculum and instruction, assessment, curriculum implementation, staff professional growth, and technology. The role involves working collaboratively with the Superintendent and Senior Administration Leadership Team, Division Office personnel, School Administrative Team, and supporting schools with alignment of Board policy and direction.
A Master’s degree in an appropriate education field and the ability to be certificated to teach in Alberta is required. Commitment to career-long professional learning, collaboration, accountability, and ongoing critical reflection to identify opportunities for improving school leadership, teaching, and learning is expected. The ideal candidate models and inspires ethical conduct characterized by integrity, loyalty, respect, and honesty in interpersonal relationships.
