The Parks department is looking for a temporary full-time Clerk – Operations to join their team for approximately one year. This is primarily customer service, clerical and typing work of moderate complexity. The work involves providing general office support services to the Parks Department including performing timekeeping duties, processing information, allocating labour and equipment using computerized systems, compiling data, processing work orders, and providing diversified information and assistance to the public on matters related to Parks functions, policies and operations. An ability to exercise sound judgement and act independently is required.

The successful applicant will have:

  • Sound knowledge of the applicable departmental policies, practices, procedures and Union agreement, along with sound knowledge of the operations and functions of the Division;
  • Sound knowledge of the practices and procedures used in the operation of computerized operations management systems;
  • Sound knowledge of modern office practices and procedures, including timekeeping and record keeping practices, business English, spelling, punctuation, arithmetic, filing and related clerical functions;
  • Ability to compose routine correspondence, reports and related material independently;
  • Ability to track and oversee budgets as they relate to contracted services;
  • Ability to schedule public appointment for various staff;
  • Proficiency in the use of Excel, eDOCS, and other internal software programs;
  • Sound knowledge of arboricultural methods, practices, and terminology;
  • Establish and maintain effective working relations with a variety of sources and provide information and assistance and resolve routine complaints;
  • Proven skills in dealing diplomatically with the public in person, on the phone and via email in a cordial and professional manner, along with excellent verbal and written communication skills, and effective listening skills.

Qualifications:
Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by related courses plus sound related clerical experience, preferably in a municipal environment, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. A valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License is required.

The pay range for this unionized position is $26.34 to $30.94 per hour based on a 35-hour work week.
