Instructor/Coordinator, Engineering

The School of University Arts and Sciences invites applications for an instructor and program lead for our First-Year Engineering Transfer Program. The successful applicant will support the student cohort and teach the first-year Engineering courses as part of the new provincial common curriculum. These courses include, ENGR 100: Engineering Design and Communication I and ENGR 101: Engineering Design and Communication II. This position includes program development work and outreach to the engineering community.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Employ best practices for teaching and learning

Provide instruction to students

Create and maintain a positive learning environment

Provide constructive and meaningful feedback to students

Evaluate student progress and achievement

Ensure the alignment of course outcomes, assessments and evaluation

Report to the UAS School Chair on related course matters including the course outline, assessments, and student issues

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

Proficiency in AutoCAD drafting software

Proficiency in Arduino software and hardware

Knowledge of best practices for teaching and learning

A commitment to student success

Ability to engage students with diverse backgrounds and academic abilities

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Strong organizational and problem-solving skills

Willingness to contribute to School and/or College initiatives

Education and Experience

A Professional Engineer registered with the Engineers and Geoscientists BC

A Master’s degree in a related field

Demonstrated successful teaching experience at the post-secondary level.

Experience with the Moodle Learning Management System is an asset.

This is a short-term, part-time (50%) position commencing August 1, 2021 and ending July 31, 2022. Some additional math or science courses could be added to the teaching workload, depending on instructor qualifications and availability, and there is the possibility of future program expansion and an ongoing placement. Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Selkirk College Faculty Association (SCFA) Collective Agreement. The salary range is $2,369.08-$3,806.85 bi-weekly (at 100% appointment) and is based on qualifications and experience.
