Position Summary
Reporting to the Manager, Renovations, Capital Projects, and Operations, the Mechanical and Electrical Services Coordinator provides technical, design and administrative coordination for Renovation and Capital projects. The incumbent performs engineering studies and assessment of building systems (HVAC, fire protection, plumbing, electrical, etc.) and equipment performance. The incumbent evaluates and recommends work to maintain acceptable conditions of Campus facilities, to ensure facilities meet the general and specialized needs for Academic program delivery, as well as to ensure effective operations in Service and Administrative areas and efficient Plant operations.
Responsibilities
Manages and/or assists in managing projects associated with Mechanical and Electrical building services (condition assessment, renovation projects, equipment replacement and system expansion, feasibility study, air audits, re-commissioning etc.) from initial planning to completion.
Assists in project management of various Capital Construction Projects including coordinating work of architects, consultants, contractors, and vendors at all stages from initial planning to commissioning and move-in phases (i.e. design/consultation phase; construction phase; occupancy /commissioning phase; move in/project close out phase)
Prepares specifications, RFPs and tender documents, and working Mechanical & Engineering drawings (CAD sketches, tender form, etc.)
Regularly reviews projects for deficiency and adherence to standards; ensuring work is progressing as per schedule.
Assists in maintaining up to date records, such as: as built drawings, owner’s manuals, commissioning reports, facility inventory lists, product and services library, VFA building assessment, and various other Facilities department records.
Prepares and keeps up to date Centennial College key Mechanical and Electrical services plans as required for Emergency and Business Continuity Planning
Collaborate with other relevant Centennial College departments to develop and keep current Centennial College design and construction standards.
Monitor and manage project budget(s)
Qualifications/Experience
Four (4) year degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Minimum five (5) years of related experience in building services design, construction and project management for small to large multi-site institutional facilities renovations
Experience in design of the mechanical and electrical systems, reading architectural and structural drawings, performing site surveys, preparing as-built drawings
Experience in performing and participating in the mechanical and electrical building systems assessment
Working knowledge of Building Codes and Standards, OSHA and engineering practices/principals
Demonstrated proficiency in AutoCAD, Microsoft Word and Excel, and Project Management software
Demonstrated organizational, problem solving skills with the ability to negotiate and/or compromise; balancing the unexpected demands of the position
Ability to build and maintain productive working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders
Strong analytical and decision making skills
Excellent written and verbal communications skills
Proof of credentials or equivalencies from accredited regional or federal post secondary institutions and/or their foreign equivalents will be required at the time of job offer.
