The Strategic Partnerships and Initiatives Division leads the Ministry of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation (Ministry) in improving economic and social outcomes for Indigenous people and giving effect to reconciliation with Indigenous people through the New Fiscal Relationship, key strategic initiatives, and social and economic partnerships and collaboration with Indigenous peoples. The division leads engagement and negotiations with companies, industry organizations, stakeholders and other ministries to support initiatives and key government priorities.

The Socio-Economic Partnerships (SEP) Branch promotes shared leadership through the development and implementation of key initiatives to strengthen the social and economic conditions of Indigenous people in British Columbia (BC). This work requires the collaborative development of holistic approaches through a range of initiatives, supporting the ministry’s mandate to implement UNDRIP and the TRC Calls to Action, through meaningful engagement with Indigenous partners, provincial ministries and the federal government.

The Policy and Relationship Development Officer is responsible for developing strategic relationships with Indigenous communities to identify opportunities to improve key socio-cultural and socio-economic outcomes. This includes convening cross sector dialogues and developing strategic recommendations regarding potential projects and partnerships with community, provincial and federal government, sector and industry and other partners. The Policy and Relationship Development Officer conducts research and analysis to inform the development of mandates and strategies, including Cabinet Submissions, briefing notes, discussion papers, and presentations. The Policy and Relationship Development Officer manages relationships with Indigenous communities through the development and implementation of projects and initiatives, contract management, development of briefing materials and identification of current or emerging issues, project evaluation and reporting.

Job Requirements:
In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:

A Bachelor’s Degree or higher in a related field of study, such as Indigenous Studies, Political Science, Education, Community Planning or equivalent field and 2 years of related experience; OR

Diploma in a related field of study, such as Indigenous Studies, Political Science, Education, Community Planning or equivalent field and 4 years of related experience; OR

An equivalent combination of education, experience and training may be considered.

Related experience must include all of the following:
A minimum of 2 years of experience in conducting research and analysis related to social policy development and program issues.

Experience working with Indigenous organizations and communities.

Experience supporting or leading a collaborative project/initiative.

Preference may be given to applicants with one or more of the following:

Candidates who self-identify as Indigenous to Canada – First Nations, Métis or Inuit.

Experience leading team projects and engaging with partners

Experience with Indigenous cultural revitalization, including language revitalization.
