This is advanced creative design and skilled technical work developing the layout and design of a variety of the City’s print and online marketing and communications materials, including publications, brochures, ads, posters, newsletters and maps. An incumbent also develops graphics and artwork suited to a particular need or project using various methods and techniques through the use of Adobe Creative Suite. The work also involves digital photography and the use of scanned images and video in the production of creative design solutions in both static and audiovisual displays including PowerPoint and online videos. The Graphic Designer works closely with City and department staff in designing materials to assist with the communications and marketing of programs, special events and displays, and liaises with both internal and external contacts on matters related to the work. Other responsibilities include writing, editing and proofreading of program copy; consulting with printers and other contractors on price, quality and delivery, and ensures cost effectiveness of completed work. Efficient project management, from the development of timelines, to the coordination and follow up of printing is essential. Performs related work as required.
Qualifications include completion of a two year diploma program in Commercial or Graphic Design with sound related experience preferably in a Municipal Government environment. Proficiency in the prepation of communication and marketing material and in the use of materials, equipment, and software used in the work (ie. Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Acrobat Pro and Premiere Pro, and MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint etc.) Sound knowledge of the operation of photographic equipment. The demonstrated ability to advance work on a variety of projects, working within a defined budget and consistently meet deadlines is critical. Driver’s license for the Province of British Columbia is required.
