Manager, Pandemic Planning

Job Description:
In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health) patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

The Manager provides leadership and direction in conjunction with the Clinical Project Director in the creation and implementation of Pandemic Planning strategy, and assesses and responds to the impact of any new data and information from the Ministry of Health and Island Health. The Manager is responsible for all aspects of planning, organizing and directing the delivery of services related to Pandemic Planning, across Island Health, while managing, directly and through delegation, the professional and clinical practice of staff, the quality of care and ensures departmental policies and procedures comply with professional, legal and Island Health standards.

Participates on various Island Health committees and task groups as appropriate and provides leadership for projects in partnership with the health authority, as well as community agencies, and participates at community tables including Community Health Networks (where established) with other Island Health programs and community stakeholders to develop partnerships to facilitate patient/client care

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Training And Experience

A level of education, training and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in a health-related discipline and seven (7) years’ relevant experience in health services delivery and management. A Master’s degree in a health related discipline is preferable.

Ability to integrate administrative, professional and operational aspects of the program throughout Island Health in an effective and efficient manner

Ability to develop and nurture an environment where quality pandemic response principles are embraced and used on a continuous basis

Ability to lead, direct, and develop staff

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a broad range of stakeholders

Ability to work independently and with initiative

Demonstrated analytical and critical thinking skills

Physical ability to perform the duties of the job.
