This is intermediate level technical, routine manual and field and office work in the Engineering Department. An incumbent drafts alignment drawings, and plots control and detail data from survey field notes and data collectors, and engineering and legal survey plans showing information such as location and size of lots, relevant bearings, and distances using AutoCAD or similar software; makes modifications and plots plans using a plotter; assists a superior in conducting field surveys; clears trees and other obstacles from survey lines; takes linear measurements as directed; cuts, drives and marks posts and stakes; locates and uncovers survey pins; assists in establishing lines and grades; assists in the preparation of field notes, sketches, cut sheets and survey computations and in correlating and referencing linear plans to UTM coordinates as requested; provides factual information and assistance to city staff and the public on survey related matters such as lot sizes, benchmarks, ISA monument data and legal plans; Maintains a variety of records and files related to the work; operates a light truck or van as required. Performs related work as required.

Qualifications include graduation from a recognized institute of technology in Geomatics, plus some related experience, including the use of CAD; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Sound knowledge of departmental functions, procedures, rules and regulations related to the work; of city surveying procedures, engineering principles and procedures and computerized survey drafting techniques; of elementary trigonometry and other mathematics related to the work. Ability to draft and plot drawings from survey notes, data collectors and engineering and legal plans, using AutoCAD and similar software and peripheral equipment; to assist a superior in conducting field surveys, preparing notes, sketches and survey computations, correlating and referencing linear plans to UTM coordinates and in making non-complex survey calculations as requested. Skill in the use and care of tools and equipment used in the work. A valid Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia is required.
