Parks Labourer/Maintenance Worker

The District of Central Saanich, located on the Saanich Peninsula of Southern Vancouver Island enjoys the reputation of being among the best locations in Canada to work, live and play. Central Saanich is bounded on both the east and west by ocean and is known for its scenic rolling countryside and bounty of farms. This community of 18,000 residents has a vibrant, small village character and includes the Tsawout and Tsartlip First Nations; and it is central to all amenities of the Greater Victoria area.

Working with an engaged team of employees, the Parks Labourer/Maintenance Worker, reports directly to the District’s Parks Foreman. This position is responsible for performing a variety of tasks in the maintenance, repair and construction of the municipal parks and related services.
 
Key knowledge, skills and abilities include: knowledge of parks and trail systems; ability to perform common parks maintenance duties; complying with and following all pertinent WorkSafeBC and Occupational Health and Safety regulations; ability to serve the public in a courteous manner; establishing and maintaining good working relationships; maintaining professional and technical requirements of the position; and working knowledge of relevant software applications.

The ideal candidate will possess a Grade 12 diploma, one (1) year parks maintenance related courses and three (3) years relevant experience in parks operations or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Additionally, they must hold a current valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License with air endorsement and current Traffic Control Certification. Due to the nature of the work, the incumbent must be physically fit and be able to work outside in all weather conditions. Please see the attached job description for more information.

The pay rate for this regular, full-time 8 hour per day, Monday to Friday position is $32.22-$34.85 (2020 rates) and comes with an excellent benefits package.
