Description
This is a permanent part time position based on 20 hours per week. The work schedule is determined in consultation with your supervisor and may vary according to requirements of responsibility. Applicable shifts include a ½ hour unpaid meal break. The operational hours of this facility are 24/7.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- The incumbent, exercising considerable initiative, carries out the duties of the position, with minimal direction and day to day supervision.
- Computer literate, demonstrating experience with Microsoft Office, internet and keyboarding. Experience with HIFIS an asset. Recognizable skill in effective time management and organization.
- Demonstrates effective interpersonal and communication skills and has ability to deal with internal/external contacts at all levels within and outside of the organization.
- Skills in understanding the use of authority in supervision and to intervene effectively in crisis situations.
- Demonstrate empathy, concern and interest in providing quality care for client following the facility Mission statement of offering new hope and real help to those who need it most.
- To adhere to department boundaries and follow direction of supervisor
- Records intake processes and decisions making applicable case notes and observations. Contributes to case histories for all incoming clients/residents. Provides support and visits to families staying off site.
- Meal preparation and some light housekeeping duties as required
- Life skills, appointments or referrals to client as necessary
- Represents The Salvation Army in a professional, courteous manner, congruent with the organizations values and principles. Liaises with referral sources and other external agencies as needed (e.g. Ontario Works, police, ODSP)
- Adhere to standards that are consistent with the values and philosophy of The Salvation Army
- Support and engage with client activities and workshops
- Understanding of cultural differences. Commitment to team-work. Bilingualism an asset.
- Engagement with client in meaningful conversation to be able to assist and refer appropriately to our community partners for the client well being

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Diploma or Degree in a social work field or equivalent field
1-3 years’ work experience in a related field, preferably in a residential setting.
Basic computer and clerical skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
Ability to work unsupervised and also function as a team member.
Current Certification in First Aid/CPR/NVCI
Provide an original copy of a Criminal Police Investigation Check with vulnerable sector screening
Must be able to confirm and maintain registration through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.
Class G driver’s license
Food Handlers Certificate
