This is a casual relief position. The work schedule is determined in consultation with your supervisor and may vary according to requirements of responsibility.
Normal hours of work vary and may include statutory holidays.
Normal location of work is at Ellen Osler Home, 34 Hatt St, Dundas, Ontario L9H 2E8.
This is a unionized environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure compliance with mission and values of The Salvation Army and with other applicable contract/s or agreements.
- Provide direct services to federally sentenced women in a residential setting, which will include following client reintegration plans, monitoring conditions of release, and managing client behaviours
- Ensure the safety and security of the building which will include resident checks, facility checks, and monitoring of security systems
- Oversee the front desk reception by answering phones and doors, maintaining the residential log book, and other documentation as needed
- Record relevant client information in daily log book, case notes, occurrence reports, incident reports, etc. as needed
- May complete intakes, discharges and corresponding tasks as directed
- Interact with community partners in a professional manner and represent the mission and values of The Salvation Army Ellen Osler Home in the community as needed.
- Maintain client and Ministry Unit confidentiality and uphold privacy/data safeguarding expectations per Ministry Unit contracts
- Attend staff meetings, conferences, and training as required and authorized
- Perform other position related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Completion of diploma/degree in social service work, mental health, corrections, or counselling from a recognized college/university
- Minimum of two years of related experience in a social services setting; previous experience related to corrections would be a definite asset
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and effective interpersonal skills
- Must be computer literate and efficient in Windows and Microsoft Office Experience using HIFIS preferred
- Ability to assist clients to effectively establish, implement and meet their individual life goals as it relates to community reintegration
- Demonstrated understanding of the federal justice system and its impacts on individuals who have experienced or are experiencing federal incarceration
- Support for and understanding of restorative justice
- Demonstrated ability to work with socially disadvantaged individuals
- Demonstrated ability to work with and show compassion to those suffering from mental illness and/or addiction
- Maturity and ability to exercise sound judgement and boundaries in a residential environment
- Ability to work with marginalized clients that may harbor anger and resentment towards helping professions
- Ability to work both independently and under supervision
- Ability to lift/move 40 lbs. (18.14 kgs)
- Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Knowledge of community-based resources
- Possess current First Aid, NVCI and CPR certificates
- Enhanced Reliability Clearance through Public Works Canada is required. This clearance is to be obtained at time of hire, or can be transferred from a previous place of employment
- May require screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry
- Support for and an understanding of the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and the mission statement of The Salvation Army Ellen Osler Home
