Responsibilities

The Fundraising Officer for Philanthropic Development is responsible for the implementation and monitoring of the fundraising campaigns under his or her responsibility. The Officer’s field of activity will vary according to the department’s priorities and work plan as well as the Officer’s particular skills and experience, fostering complementarity of talents and interchangeability among members of the team.

The Officer’s work entails developing target clientele and initiating activities which involve prospecting, loyalty, recognition and accountability. The Officer will thus maintain ongoing relationships with current and potential donors.

The Officer will be actively involved in developing the Philanthropic Development Plan and assessing it within the framework of the strategic plan.

1. To contribute and participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of an annual philanthropic development campaign for the entire Organization, as per the strategic plan. This campaign will include, inter alia, activities involving donor acquisition, recognition and retention;

2. To develop and roll out strategies for soliciting major gifts from our current pool of members and donors;

3. To develop and roll out strategies for attracting the general public and to target audiences that are not part of the current pool of members and donors, but which have the potential to become so, in order to solicit major gifts from them;

4. To analyze the potential of our existing or potential donors and target those who may be interested in funding the Organization through planned giving;

5. To develop, plan and implement mass solicitation strategies (including postal appeals, e-mail, online, and social media appeals), as well as strategies to develop the monthly giving program (the Share Year-Round program). In each case, this work involves, inter alia, setting annual objectives, monitoring the budgets attached to the campaigns that will be set up and respecting deadlines and production schedules;

Requirements

Academic background

  • Bachelor’s degree in law, social sciences, communication, administration or equivalent

Languages

  • Good command of French and English, spoken and written
  • Ability to compose and revise texts in both languages

Software and computer programs

  • Mastery of Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Knowledge of a database software

Experience

  • Four years of relevant fundraising experience
  • Relevant experience in planned giving, including endowment funds, bequests, insurance and life annuities (asset)
  • Experience in a non-profit organization, working with volunteers or donors

Specific knowledge

  • Excellent knowledge of pan-Canadian legislation encompassing fundraising
  • Good knowledge of the Privacy Act
  • Good knowledge of Canada’s social, economic, political, religious and cultural issues
  • Good knowledge of international development issues
  • Knowledge of the Church and its commitments to social justice and international development (asset)

Availability

  • Availability to travel in Canada and abroad
  • Availability to work occasional evenings and weekends

Working conditions

  • 35 hours work week
  • Group insurance and pension plan and competitive working conditions according to the collective agreement
