Description
This is a permanent, full-time position based on 32 hours per week on a rotating overnight 2-week schedule. Benefits available after probationary period as per the Collective Agreement. Applicable shifts include a ½ hour unpaid meal break. The operational hours of this facility are 24/7. This is a unionized position.
Shifts:
Week One: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday Thursday – 12:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.
Week Two: Saturday, Sunday, Thursday, Friday – 12:30 a.m. to 08:30 a.m.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The incumbent, exercising considerable initiative, carries out the duties of the position, with minimal direction and day-to-day supervision.
- Record and report activities, behaviours, and any incidents, which occur during the overnight, shift; reports concerns promptly to on call personnel as needed.
- Conduct nightly check of grounds, facility and resident beds at start/end of shift and maintain records in the logbook.
- Ensure all doors and windows are locked and secure. Answers door (via intercom) and telephone during shift.
- Provide emotional support and/or crisis intervention for residents/clients as required; Provide clerical support for day and afternoon shifts (filing, data input, etc.)
- Provide referrals as necessary and appropriate depending on time consistency, rules and policies with all clients equally.
- Quietly perform any new nighttime intakes, backdating, and inputting into HIFIS.
- Enter statistics for referrals, turn away, goods and services nightly and check off in log and item list.
- Clean and organize kitchen; sanitize / remove trash as required; tidy dining room.
- Prepare meal for following day dinner; prepare food accordingly; ensure kitchen well stocked: fruit, dairy available for breakfast
- Pack food baskets for Monday and Thursday delivery days if any clients in mote.
- As required and applicable, make suggestions that will improve efficiency, working conditions or procedures, to management.
- Adhere to standards that are consistent with the values and philosophy of The Salvation Army Women & Family Shelter
- Participate fully and constructively in staff meetings and in-service training.
- Engage in formal evaluation sessions and supervision at 3 months and once yearly thereafter
- Read and follow the Policy & Procedures Manual and the Employee Handbook. Every employee must read and sign that they have read, a copy of the Policies and procedures and understand that they will be required to adhere to all guidelines in their dealings with Residents and Clients, as well as with Staff and Administration.
- Become familiar with the provisions of the Position Description and Operational Manual, which will be provided for the position.
- Perform other position related duties as assigned
- NOTE: Not all incumbents perform all of the duties described above but perform a similar range of duties.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Completion of a Community College Diploma in Social Work, Addictions, Counseling or related field(s).
- More than three months but less than one year of prior related experience an asset
- Basic computer and clerical skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Ability to work unsupervised and function as a team member.
- Current Certification in First Aid/CPR/NVCI
- Provide an original copy of a Criminal Police Investigation Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.
- Must be able to confirm and maintain registration through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.
- Safe Food Handlers Certification (will assist to obtain)
- Support for and an understanding of the Mission and Purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada.
NOTE: Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered
PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:
- Bilingualism considered to be an asset
