The City of Coquitlam is currently recruiting for a Pool Maintenance Worker that will ensure the effective functioning of heating, filtration and chlorination equipment; assist in the development and implementation of preventive maintenance schedules; and as required, obtain the services of private contractors to perform emergency or major repairs. In addition, they will direct the work of a small group of staff involved in pool, building maintenance and janitorial tasks on an assigned shift and/or assumes responsibility for a number of outdoor pools, spray parks and related park facilities under the general direction of a superior. Duties are performed in accordance with established practices and procedures but independent action and judgment are exercised in the technical aspects of the work.

The successful candidate will have considerable knowledge of the operating principles and procedures of water heating, filtration and chlorination equipment, and the methods, practices and materials used in swimming pool repair and maintenance. They will have sound knowledge of the methods, materials and operation of heating, ventilating and air conditioning equipment and related systems as well as working knowledge of plumbing, electrical systems and carpentry applicable to the maintenance of park facilities and of materials, methods and equipment used in building maintenance. The ability to operate, maintain and repair equipment typically used in an aquatic facility is required, in addition to being able to identify causes of equipment failure and identify potential problems. Successful candidates will also bring leadership capabilities in order to direct the work of a small group of employees engaged in pool and building maintenance and janitorial tasks.

Our ideal candidate will have completed their high school diploma supplemented by technical courses related to the work plus sound related pool maintenance and repair experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. They will also possess a valid BC driver’s license (with satisfactory driving record) as well as a Pool Operator’s Certificate and have the ability to work evenings and weekends.

A CUPE hourly rate of $28.00 – $32.90 an excellent benefits package. Applicants under consideration will be required to undergo a police security clearance evaluation (with no adverse reports).
