1. Social Media & Press Releases Officer (Freelance)
Part time: 2 hrs per day (6 days a week)
Salary: £12 to £14 per hr

Hong Kong Watch is looking for a social media freelancer who can manage social media campaigns, translate press releases, connect with the media and work with the policy team and designers.
Hong Kong Watch is a UK-based registered charity which researches and monitors threats to Hong Kong’s human rights, rule of law and autonomy. We are experts on Hong Kong, regularly commenting on issues in the international and local press. We work with high-level stakeholders to pressure international governments to stand for human rights in Hong Kong.
This role will be responsible for assisting the Policy team’s campaigns via social media, press releases, communication with mainstream media in HK, Canada, the US and UK.
Key responsibilities will involve:
Social Media:
Work with the Policy team and assist the team’s campaigns via social media and main stream media.
- Schedule and design campaigns posts.
- Work with graphic designers on campaigns.
Press Releases:
- Translate Press Releases.
- Connect media in HK, Canada, the US and UK.
Person Specification:
Required
- Experienced translator.
- Strong writing skills in both English and Chinese is essential.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills are essential.
- Minimum 2-years of relevant work experience is required.
- Good team player.
Desirable
- Experienced journalist is preferred.
- Basic knowledge in layout and graphic design would be an advantage.
2. Canada Policy Advisor (Contract)
Part time: 3-4 days a week
Salary: Competitive and dependent on experience
Location: Ottawa

Hong Kong Watch is looking to hire an Ottawa based and motivated professional to be our Canada Policy Advisor and work with our North America Policy team.
The individual in this role will be expected:
1. To push forward effective policy change in Canada to defend democracy and human rights in Hong Kong, as well as China more broadly.
2. To extend and consolidate Hong Kong Watch’s network in Canada by actively developing connections with various stakeholders including politicians, government departments (specifically Global Affairs and Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship), human rights NGOs, foreign policy think tanks, local Hong Kong groups and other parties.
3. To monitor developments within the Canadian Parliament, Canadian press, and the Canadian Government regarding Hong Kong and China more broadly.
Person Specification:
Required:
Experienced policy professional and researcher.
Experience working in Parliament or policy work in Canada.
Strong research and report writing skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills are essential.
Minimum 2-years of relevant work experience is required.
A high level of proficiency in English is essential and French would be an advantage.
Good team player.
Willingness to travel and work flexible hours when necessary.
Desirable:
Experience engaging with the media.
Experience in political or civil advocacy.
A good understanding of Canadian and Hong Kong politics.
A Master’s degree in a relevant discipline an advantage.
