The CEO will formulate and lead the execution of strategic and business goals and targets for the Centre for Ocean Applied Sustainable Technologies (COAST), “the organization”. Responsible for the rapid growth of membership, activating member projects and driving revenue streams, the CEO will develop COAST’s global capability and reputation in ocean technology fields, while maximizing operational efficiencies and impact through partnership and ecosystem development.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
- Business Leadership 30% – Taking the organization into the future, defining its direction, establishing goals, adapting to external factors, seeking and securing opportunities for growth and/or improvements, anticipating requirements, and managing change.
- COAST Members and Membership 30% – Building out an extensive industry membership base. Working closely with all members to map out current and future needs, industry level challenges and work across sectors and cultures to design solutions and projects to shared industry challenges to make Pacific Canada a global leader in the future ocean economy.
- Operational Leadership 20% – Putting in place the systems, structures, and disciplined practices required to manage results. This includes planning and prioritizing, providing clear direction, ensuring accountability, and monitoring the achievement of financial, quality, safety, and other key business measures.
- Cultural Leadership 10%- Connecting with and engaging with staff and board members in their work, and ensuring they feel recognized and valued. Creating a work environment based on COAST’s core values. Building a team with the right people in the right roles and managing performance. Creating and maintaining respectful relationships with diverse communities including First Nations and Indigenous-led organizations, businesses and innovators.
- National and Global Leadership 10%- Leading COAST and maintaining a positive reputation through national and international contribution.

Minimum Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree a minimum
- Previous ocean technology /relevant industry experience preferred
- Minimum 5 years experience in a leadership role.
- Demonstrated ability to take responsibility for financial results for a complex business unit or multiple business units
- In-depth understanding of Board Structures and Governance.
- Highly developed communication (verbal and written) skills with proven ability to present persuasively
